Will you join us in supporting this momentous effort for Better Beer Laws?
The Utah Consumer Coalition was formed in May 2019 as a non-profit 501(c)(4) corporation to advocate on behalf of Utah consumers for better beer laws.
Beginning with the upcoming 2020 legislative session, our first order of business will be to lobby lawmakers for Heavy Beer Amendments to allow heavy beer to be served from tap-to-glass. This amendment will be very similar in nature to H.B. 349 that was sponsored by Representative Curtis Oda in 2009. Oda’s bill overwhelmingly passed the House 58-2, but eventually expired in the Senate.
The Coalition believes that current laws governing the sale of heavy beer by Utah’s breweries and licensees impose an unnecessary financial burden on small business; has a negative impact on Utah’s tourism and hospitality industry; inhibits consumer freedom; and has a measurable, devastating impact on the environment.
As you know, making changes to Utah’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Act is always an uphill battle. We believe that a strong consumer voice and a well-organized legion of small business owners can add significant influence on traditional lobbying efforts and bring more transparency to the law-making process.
With more than one-thousand consumers registered and growing, we are now beginning our effort to identify Utah businesses that are willing to advocate alongside the UCC.
